What I’m Reading and Other News September 2023

Hi Book Buddies!

Life took an unexpected turn this month when my daughter was hit by a car on the way home from school. There has been much counting of blessings in this house as her most serious injury was a broken foot, it could have been much worse. She’s hobbling about in a leg cast at the moment, and made it back to school this week.

Between nursemaiding and editing like mad my reading time has taken a hit this month, but I have finished The Bookshop and the Barbarian by Morgan Stang. It was a joyful read, and I really, really want to visit that bookshop! Specifically I want to sit by that fire upstairs curled up under a blanket, with the rain pattering on the window. Blissful.

Last month I mentioned that the Fireside Fantasy Facebook Group reading club were voting on the next book, well the votes are in and the book we will be reading in October is Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson. I’m excited because I’ve not read that one before, and I’m looking forward to it.

Re-read: I’m still working my way through the Terry Pratchett novels with my daughter, we have had a lot of unexpected time to do that this month, and now we are up to Night Watch. I will never get bored of reading these books.

Beware of Chicken: A Xianxia Cultivation Novel by Casualfarmer has been keeping me cheerful this month, an easy listen, and narrated by Travis Baldree which is a treat. I’m also listening to Flowers of Esthelm by Pirateaba.

Okay, here I’ve been really busy. I’ve been editing my cozy fantasy novella. There’s a deadline of the 30th of this month, and I’ll be squeaking it! It’s currently with a beta reader, and I won’t get it back until the 29th, so I’ll be sitting up late going over and over it. It’s reached that stage where I’ve looked at it so much I’ve lost perspective, and I need other eyes on it. I’m excited because next month I can share details of this project, and it’s so awesome.
